All in all it was a great weekend!  Lots of close races and a few surprises as well.  I was totally impressed with the Scurvy Dogs!.   beaten  For only having 7 weeks or so of practice they kicked some...... booty.  A lot of the established teams took notice.  Everyone I have talked to hopes they return next year!

I agree- it was a great weekend and the Scurvy Dawgs did impress, not just with their paddling but with their spirit and enthusiasm as well.  I'd also like to give a shout-out to the Dogpaddlers and Sssteam Heat for having such a terrific year.  I'm a little sad that it will be almost a year until I get to raise a glass with all of you in the beer gardens again.

PS- thanks to everybody who has posted photos, awesome!!

is that GD's mascot?!?!

Ah-Ha!!

As it happens, our number one sponsor, the nice folks who rep Kirin out here on the Left Coast, included a couple of BIG bottles of their product (empty replicas, I'm sorry to say) with the swag they gave us in 2003.

But one of them oh so "mysteriously' disappeared (at Alcan 2003, I think it was, or maybe '04).

Hmmmm ...

This will take some thinkin' (as to what will be a suitable come-back), methinks ...  Wink

Water-cannons at 20 paces??

(and GD was only a couple of tents down from us this past weekend, too ... we missed a "launch window", it seems)

Actually, the GDs took the bottle from the Alcan beer garden THIS year.  One of our more intrepid females slyly snuck away with the fully inflated bottle under her shirt...

Now how in tarnations name can you steer, command and call while taking pictures with a very water-sensitive device?  Was somebody NOT doing their job staying focused in the boat?  Whistle

I have to agree,  sternin2ellenback, taking pictures while steering a Dragon boat (at any time, not just racing)  is an accident waiting to happen.   Shocked

Oh darn ... and here I was hoping for a good excuse for a water-fight, next time we bump into the GDs!! Laughing

Actually, our Team Manger told me earlier this week that she gave one of the Kirin Large Pops to the GD folks during the beery hoo-rahs in the b-g at Alcan this year, just because they were such "nice people".

Hmmm ... I think I would have liked to have seen the "intrepid female" with the thing tucked under her shirt!!!  Waddle, waddle??  "So tell us, when are your octuplets due?"

And anyway, it turns out we in fact have a bushel of the things.

Let's see ... what about if we give one to every team we race against, then get them all filled up (with Kirin, naturally!) while we are all celebratin' in a b-g somewhere, and then have a chugging contest?
Cheers

Oh my achin' head ...  Rolling Eyes
