Hey I found the race results for Penticton at www.pentictondragonboat.com. The festival was a pretty good warm up to Kelowna as usual. Hopefully the weather will be a little more co operative this weekend. Had a great time though. The OKAI'IAKIKAUAS team did pretty well.... are they going to be in Kelowna?

The Penticton Festival was yet again a great time this year, the weather even cooperated with us - the Sun actually came out, and warmed up the beer garden nicely after the races.  Everything was very well organized, the results were posted promptly, and the volunteers were awesome.  The final heats ran a bit early, but the wind did kick up mildly after the Breast Cancer Ceremony, so the organizers though it best to be prudent and keep going.  I don't think that heading to the beer garden a bit early is bad for anyone!

OKAI'IKIKA'UAS is a crew of outrigger paddlers from the Penticton Racing Canoe Club (PRCC - www.prcc.bc.ca) and sometimes our friends from the Vernon Racing Canoe Club (VRCC www.vrccoutrigger.com) join us.  In the three years of our 'existence', we've entered 2 races (Kelowna 2003 - placed 16th overall and Penticton 2006 - 1st overall) and had a total of 2 practises in a dragon boat (the second practise doesn't really count as there were only 10 people in the boat, and the row 5 boys were coaching and steering).

We aren't going to Kelowna (we like Millenium boats) but we are thinking that it would be fun to take this show on the road to Nanaimo or Victoria next year and see how we stack up against the big boys in a dragon boat.  Maybe we'll see you there...

I thought that the decorum on this site was above professional wrestling, but I have been wrong before...   Confused  but after that special invite, maybe we'll have to throw together an extra practise next year before we come out, yeah, two pracitses should do it.  We would actually come for the vacation aspect,  but if we 'kick'a some ass' on the way to the beer garden, so be it!  Very Happy

Thanks for mentioning the fires...  there are some pics in the GO Gallery (www.gorowandpaddle.org/gallery) showing the smoke that people had to drive through to get here.  Luckily a little north wind (little mind you) came up overnight and blew most of the lower lying stuff out in time for the festival on saturday.  Aside from a little less wind, and maybe some more sun, we couldn't really have asked for a better day.

So, jackass#1, what team colours should we look for you to be sporting?

Wow, you are pretty confident about winning. I think I should back the Penticton team just to see what happens.
