It was a shocking disappointment to see there was no Team Spirit Award given out at the recent Victoria International Dragon Boat Festival, Aug 15, 16, 17. It should be clear to the sponsors and organizers that it takes more than just skills and commitment to power a dragon boat - it also takes a spirit of fun and comradeship within and amongst the teams that makes the festivals so special.

The unofficial story was 'there was a software problem with the computers'. And how is this related to determining team spirit? No algorithm would have anything to do with that.

Anyone know the official story?

The reply from the VDBF:

"We were all very impressed with the team spirit exhibited by the paddlers!  The reason that there was no award for it was that we actually didn't know that there was usually an award granted.  We have a new director this year, and we have new office staff each year, so it somehow slipped through the cracks.

My apologies that you felt this way, and please believe me when I say that it was not meant to be any reflection on the performance of the teams."

Yeeargh... Just an oversight. Happens to the best o' us.
