This weekend looks to be a pretty busy weekend for Dragon Boat racing. We've received a copy of the race grid for this weekend's DragonZone Spring Sprint Swift 10 Paddler Boat Regatta, but you can also find it on the Rio-Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival site here. Apparently this is a new race for this year, where teams will be racing in the Swift 10-man dragon boats in False Creek. I'm still not sure what the distance will be, but I'm assuming that they'll be 200m since running a 500m race in those Swift's is just mean.

Looks like there's 54 Mixed, 6 Women, and 5 Open teams registered for the race with representation from Lotus Mixed, Dragon Hearts Magnum, Masters of D'Zone, Swordfish, Tao Ti Phat Phish Racing. Of course, since this is a 10-man race, most teams have entered two teams, so there may be some "friendly" inter-team competition as well. As an incentive for teams to register for the main Rio-Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in June early (December 15, 2009), those teams were given one free entry into this race. Otherwise, I believe the costs ranged between $157.50 - $525.00 depending on whether you were entering a junior/adult, one/two boats and whether you were paddling out of DragonZone or elsewhere.

Yes, the distance is 200m.

Each DZ team received 2 free mixed division entries (and women's and open division entries are also free).

For Magnum, it'll be the case of the young'ns (under 23) V.S. the older farts (over 23)...The results shall be interesting lol

You mean, the O23 are going to suffer from their broken hips and complain about the old days while us U23 suck on our pacifiers!

Agreed. Great work on organizing this regatta, Masters!

It was a very spirit-lifting start to the season, and a very unique one at that. I'd do it again Very Happy

Is it too soon to ask for complete results for those of us who couldn't get there?

Great job to Master's and the volunteers of today's race. Was a beautiful day to race in even with the winds at excessive levels during large periods of the day. And great racing everyone even in these heavy 10-man boats =P

The wind through the entire day was tailwind for everyone. It certainly made the heavy Swift boats easier to handle.

And some random photos from the races.  Wasn't able to take much.  Races were running behind and  I wanted to head home and catch the Canucks game.
