Everything else is just elaborating on this basic truth.

I believe this is known as the Hugh Fisher coaching methodology.

Hugh Fisher's Methodology is put 22 paddlers in your boat and hope no one catches you....or ride someones wake..... Smile  I better run for my life.. Confused

Year 8....I know how to paddle...therefore I can coach.....

Isn't this so true......

It is like many sports in that it is relatively easy to get to an intermediate level, but to make that next step takes years. That statement reminds me of the evolution of people perspective of their abilities. In most cases it seems to look like this:

Start of first year: I know nothing
Start of second year: I know everything and I feel compelled to impart my supreme knowledge to anyone who will stand still long enough to listen.
Start of third year: I still know everything, but I am getting a strange spidey sense type tingling that there might be more to this paddle thing.
Start of fourth year: I don't know %$^. I never knew $%^, what the heck have I been doing. I apologize to everyone I annoyed and messed up over the past two years.
Start of year five and on: I know enough to know what I don't know and am working towards fixing that. I provide input and suggestions when asked only.
