Novice OC-6 is back for 2017!! If you’ve never paddled in an outrigger, or lack confidence in your paddling abilities, the Novice Outrigger Program welcomes you to learn basic paddling technique, boat safety and the Hawaiian paddling culture.
This is a co-ed program open to adults of all ages, and is coached by volunteers comprising experienced FCRCC outrigger paddlers. Through this program, you will learn outrigger paddling technique (no paddling experience necessary), develop paddling fitness and be introduced to Hawaiian culture. You will be primarily training in our 6-person OC-6 outrigger canoes, as well as our 4-person OC-4 outrigger canoe. You will also have the opportunity to take an orientation in our solo OC-1 canoes.
The Novice Outrigger Program comprises a 4-week program, with each session starting during the first week of May, June, July and August. After you have completed the Novice Program can join Race Development or another FCRCC outrigger program, as appropriate.
Practices are held Mondays from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm and Wednesdays from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm from the Burrard Marina FCRCC compound.
The Novice Program practices will be co-scheduled with Race Development practices to optimize the number of paddlers in each canoe.
As attendance is crucial in learning and developing your fitness, you are encouraged to attend both practices each week and you’ll also have the opportunity to join Race Development practices on Saturday mornings 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
