It takes team work to tie or rig the canoe. In this 4-hour session, you will learn how to tie the ama and iakos to each other using ropes and special traditional knots and attaching the iakos to the canoe. You will also learn about ama distance from the canoe, shimming, trim and adjustments for conditions, crew ability and weight. Like any skill worth learning, to become an accomplished rigger it takes practice, practice, and more practice. All paddlers are encouraged to learn how to do this! It is fun and challenging and a great way to learn more about your canoe and feel confident when you are out on the water because you will know how it was put together!
