Hey fellow dbers!
Paddles Up! is a weekly summer program in False Creek, Vancouver that allows anyone who is ever curious about what dragonboat is all about, to come out and try it for a super cheap price. It’s one of the many unique experiences you could try out this summer, and is something that will leave you with very enjoyable memories.
To try Paddles Up! for yourselves:* What: PADDLES UP!
* Who: Adults - $5, Kids (under 16) - $2
* Where: Dragonzone, False Creek
* When: Sundays May - June, 2:00-4:00pm. Be there at 1:50 to ensure a spot on the boat; it is first come, first served. Boats will cap at 20, unless there is a high demand.
* Why: It’s fun, cheap, and … well, why not?
Dragonzone is a non-profit organization. The participation fees are to compensate for coaching and advertising, so we bring you a very high quality practice session with no commitment to a team, for a really low price.
The sessions are geared for:* People who have never paddled before, but would like to try it because they’ve never heard or seen anything like it.
* People who have seen and heard about dragonboat through festivals and races, and are interested in learning more.
* Paddlers who don’t have the time to commit to a team at the moment, but just want to relieve some urges of getting out on the water this summer.
Paddles Up! is for everyone - as long as you’re tall enough to hold a paddle, you’re in! Suggested age is 10-100 years old.
Each session includes:* Brief history of Dragonboat
* Safety instructions
* Quick overview of technical terms and “how to paddle”
* A generous amount of paddling time (~45min - 1 hour)
* Volunteer paddlers that will assist you in learning how to paddle, and will answer any questions you may have!
* Memories that will last forever!
Dates of sessions:* May 18
* May 25
* June 1
* June 15
* June 29 (note: Some dates in June are cancelled for Regattas)
* July 6

Looks great for the resume (that you coached a dragonboat team from scratch, or let them idolize you while you're paddling) and gives you tons of experience with public speaking and teaching/coaching. It's also in a really laid back, casual setting so it's a nice easy transition from not-instructing to instructing. Work with all age groups and all ability levels!
