Dragon boaters have been pushing the city of Vancouver for years to allow us to build a permanent facility in False Creek that could be used by the thousands of paddlers and rowers that use False Creek each year.

Unfortunately if the future plans for False Creek do not include dragon-boat racing, the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society will have to move the festival to another city.

Join the Facebook group to show your support in keeping dragon boat racing in False Creek.

We've also gotten a copy of the CIDBFS's petition form. Please print it off and get your teams to sign the petition. It shouldn't be that hard since I'm pretty sure we all have to sign off on waivers for upcoming festivals already.

You can get a copy of the petition here.

Thanks for creating the facebook group Tim,

Maybe you can link up with some of the already existing Vancouver area dragon boat groups... that will help spread the word for paddlers who didn't race RTA this year, and former paddlers that people may know.

Just got this in my email and thought the community would be interested. To be honest, I haven't read the document in question so I can't comment.

Subject: FW: City of Vancouver - Northeast False Creek - City Council and
Park Board Meetings

Hello, This is the link for a report that staff at the City of Vancouver
have prepared.

http://vancouver.ca/ctyclerk/cclerk/20091022/documents/penv4.pdf

I just received it and it is over 60 pages long so haven't gone into it in
detail but the gist of it is that there is no mention of a boat house even
though the park is being reconfigured.

Peter Wong and I have registered to speak on behalf of the society. The
meeting starts at 2 pm. We'd welcome any thoughts you have on our approach,
whether we should do a presentation with AV. We do plan on handing in the
petition.

Thanks, Ann

This is all I saw on the document pertaining to us:

Next Steps
Following Council approval of the NEFC Directions for the Future, staff anticipate three to
four rezoning applications within a year. There remains several detailed level policy and
implementation issues to address including:

- resolving the location, size and function of marinas, including provisions for dragon
boaters;

It doesnt look like a priority at the moment for them.
