Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get some user feedback on a possible change to the forums in the near future.

We are thinking of breaking out the Racer's Village section into region-specific sections. In particular, the sections would be British Columbia, Alberta, Pacific Northwest (Washington & Portland), California, and then the "Rest". These new sections would be used to discuss events and developments in those specific regions. A general Racer's Village would still remain to discuss general topics. The different posts in the Tackboard section would be absorbed into the new regional Racer Villages.

With the new region-specific sections, we would love to have moderators that reside in those regions since they would have the local perspective and expertise. If anyone is interested in being a moderator for your region, please let us know.

That is a very interesting idea.

I can't speak for those outside of Southern California, but frankly, I don't think California would generate enough volume to warrant separating it from the rest of the fourm.  I attempted to create a forum for California a few years back and it was a big fat "FAIL" because of lack of interest.

I believe there are only a small handful of people in California that care enough about dragon boat issues to actually post a comment on a forum or even visit a dragon boat forum.

If there's an issue that California is dealing with, I would like to hear comments from those outside of California for possible solutions/takes.  If you divide up the forum by regions for region-specific issues, it may make it more tedious for those outside of California to see what is going on and offer input.

I like the way the system is set up now as I don't have to navigate to too many places to see relevant posts.  If it's divided up, I don't think I'd take the time to routinely comb through the various sections.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks LARDCore for your feedback.

I've created a poll for those that would like to provide input and still remain anonymous.

I agree with LARDCore, the volume of posts and topics in this forum isn't that much. Right now it's very easy keep track of all the new posts using just the Latest Forum Topics sidebar, and it doesn't even contain that many topics. Perhaps, instead of making regional forums, use regional tags as an *option* to identify a thread's region? It would need to be made more visible and accessible than simply going to different forums, but currently I don't believe the number and diversity of people using this forum warrant the division. Yet anyway.

I like the present system because occasionally I like to hear about events in other regions without having to navigate around too much.

There are many universal issues that will be important to all regions, so it's good for everybody to see them.
There could be a tag for these.

Regional issues could have tags, so you could click on it, and see all the local activities + races etc, or postings by people in your area.

For a Vancouverite, it was interesting to see what has been happening with the Calgary festival because: a) I personally know some of the players b) I have been involved organizing festivals myself.

So I think the present format is good, but the addition of a "local tag" would help enhance navigation.

If it ain't broke, dont fix it? lol

Having regional racer's village will definitely create dead forum sections, as not enough post might be generated for it be interactive. If that happens, ppl will just frequent those sections less and less over time.

As LARDCore said, it will get very bothersome to comb through all the different sections just to read abt db news from other cities/regions.
As much as how paddling in Cali/Edm/Calg/etc might not be relevant to me, I'd like to read it from time to time. But not so much that I'd have to find it to read it. Too much mouse clicks lol

Tags could definitely work, though it could clutter this forum's simplicity which I like.

Would it be possible to have the calendar updated with all races?  I noticed Deep Cove is not listed for April 24.

Thanks
