Hi all,
I noticed that registration is ongoing for the 2010 conference by Water's Edge.  I was wondering if anyone (obviously anyone involved in the conference itself is welcome, but I would like to also hear outside opinions) had gone to last year's conference and had comments regarding any of the specific presentations (i.e. which were more useful than others).  Depending on your level of experience in dragonboating, how much of the information gained was new for you and how much were you able to put to good use for your own team?

I appreciate any feedback.  Thanks!

I've been coaching for 9 years (in Victoria, I'm not associated with the conference) and was able to pick up something in each of the sessions I took last year.  It's not always that it's entirely new to you but it may give you another way of looking at things that you already do, perhaps a different way of explaining a familiar concept that you can reach more paddlers on your crew with.

The sessions were different last year though, I took dryland training, technique I&II, season planning, on-water and injury prevention, there may have been another one but my memory is fuzzy!  All in all I did find it helpful, I like taking info from as many sources as possible then see what works for us.  It's also a good opportunity to talk with other coaches.

I got quite a bit out of the conference last year. In particular Kamini's session on Comparative Technique was great. She explained the pros and cons of the differenet techniques and described the strengths and weaknesses of each one. There is no "one" technique that's better than the others. That session was good.

Also she described how to line people up in the boat, I found that useful, I used it myself afterwards. The dryland training session I got a few tips from as well, plus the drill book.

I found that not every single session was insightful for me, but I got enough out of it that it made it worth while.

Many many thanks to Kamini, Jackie, Andrea, Tim and Dan for a really terrific conference.  The information was comprehensive, immediately useful, well organized and well presented.  Fun too!  I am so glad I went and encourage any who may have postponed this for another year to do it!  It will help you see so many more possibilities in terms of your club and your approach to coaching.  Great opportunity to meet other coaches and club administrators and share ideas and experiences.  I am so glad I went!   Very Happy

I'll second that.  Excellent clinic!  Although I thought I'd get more comments on the USA Hockey sweater I was wearing.   Wink
