Hi All,

Eye of the Dragon was featured in yesterday's Vancouver Sun, if you get a chance this weekend, go and see their Documentary which will be played during the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragonboat festival.  They are an amazing team and group of people.

Our new team, Vision Impossible, also sponsored by BC Blind Sports, was also mentioned in the article so thank you to Eye of the Dragon for mentioning us and your continued encouragement for our team.

The support for our new team has been overwhelming and I thank everyone who has donated dri-fit shirts for our paddlers, given their time/help and support over the last couple of months.

Vision Impossible is very excited, 50% of our boat are visually impaired and most have never ever paddled until about 7 weeks ago.  With 7 practices under our belt, our goal is to do the best we can, race for each other and mostly have some fun!

Good luck to all teams participating at the Rio Tinto Dragonboat festival this weekend.

I had the pleasure of paddling as a sighted member of Vision Impossible this weekend and am glad to report that we exceeded our expectations in terms of performance.  It was very much a rewarding experience.

But one thing that really hit home was the realization of some of the challenges that people with reduced vision, or no vision at all, must go through on a daily basis.  We all know it is very busy and crowded on the way from the team tents to the docks.  While those with canes or guide dogs were quite often (but not always) given a clear path to walk, those with only partial vision were given very little space at times.  Even when guiding teammates, I would find other paddlers or spectators walking straight towards us, expecting our visually impaired member to see them and shimmy over.  It was quite the eye opener, so to speak.

Thanks to Guennie, Carey, Mark, Pam & anyone else who may have had a hand in organizing the team as well as BC Blind Sports, Sean our veteran steersman and everyone else who plopped a blade into the waters of False Creek, or lent their support in other ways.  Also want to thank the other teams, race volunteers and spectators for the show of moral support, and give a particular shout out to Eye of the Dragon folks who came over to our tent on several occasions to chat and give some positive reinforcement.
