Did anyone else see Jack Layton hanging around?
He might lead the NDP but I didn't see a wrist band whilst he was in the paddler village.. Wink

That wasn't Jack...it was his look a like...he was staying at the Coast...I nearly nailed him with a wet toliet paper ball.....I was throwing them off the 6 floor and trying to hit one my paddlers car....one got away from me and nearly nailed "Jack"....I think his wife was not impressed with me (BTW..unless Jack has a Caucasian wife now, I do stand corrected.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say what an great weekend, all the teams did so well. I know our team had a blast; hope we didn't bug anyone too much with our sneak water gun attacks  Laughing
As for the naysayers implying that our ranking (we took home the Silver in Jade) was mostly as a result of the water conditions; let me remind you that we did in fact place either 2nd or 1st place in all of our 4 races and we did so being short 2 paddlers, so I think it's safe to say we didn't just "get lucky". We got that ranking because we have a strong, dedicated team. We did have a few crazy close races, we got placed with some really great teams. Fluid Motion - you really gave us an awesome race (twice) - hope to see you at the Richmond fest!

all i gotta say is, Steam Heat, you better watch you backs at the upcoming races... MMWWWAAAAHHHHAAAAHHHAAAA!!  Laughing

big cheers for Nanaimo!  it was my second year participating and my team and I had a GREAT time!  thanks to all the organizers, marshalls, volunteers and the other teams!!

hands up to all the steers!  i wasn't sure how we were supposed to make it to the finish line with having to start on a 45 degree angle but we made it!!  Gold in the Silver Division... and yes, it seems there's a consensus that we should've been placed in a higher division, but we did what we did to the best of our ability and that's where we ended up... they were all still super races none the less!

This was my first away festival and I had a blast. The venue was well laid out and the beer garden was fantastic especially since the d.j. played almost all our requests.
The races were a lot of fun and the winds, the current, our team high fiving the bouy in our final race only added to the sweet rewards at the end new jewellery and cold glasses of wine.
It was tons of fun hope to do it again next year.

Security was the best I've ever seen at a festival. After the racing was over, people LEAVING the paddlers' village were being asked to show their wrist bands - that's excellent.

All around fabulous festival - congratulations and thanks to all organizers and the army of volunteers. Special thanks to crew marshall Greg who is absolutely born for the job.

Does anyone have a shot of a dragonboat hitting the sandbar at the Nanaimo DB Fest this year?  I am looking for a copy of this picture.  PM me if you have it.

Thx.
